A team source says the Bills are gearing up to run a no-huddle offense in 2009. It would maximize their skill players and perhaps neutralize any offensive-line deficiencies by wearing out defenders. Bills fans became enamored with a no-huddle offense known as the K-Gun, which Jim Kelly so masterfully conducted during their Super Bowl years. “The no-huddle lends itself to guys that are big-play guys,” Former coach Sam Wyche said, “because if you get a defense that’s just a little fatigued, just a little off their first-step quickness, and you get the explosive guys, they can hit the home run. They have those quick-strike guys.”

Nate Davis is as quick…Quarterback Nate Davis said it took him about a year and a half to learn the nuances of the Ball State offense, which means it could take him significantly longer to know an NFL offense. His learning curve begins tomorrow.

Linebacker Leroy Hill has agreed to terms on a multiyear contract, the Seahawks will announce Thursday afternoon. It is a six-year contract with $15.5 million guaranteed and a total value of up to $38 million.

Comcast Corp. said late Thursday that it will continue carrying the NFL Network even after their contract expires at midnight, as negotiations continue. Without an agreement, the nation’s largest cable TV operator had said it would be required to pull the plug on the football network starting Friday.

Sheldon Brown showed up for work yesterday at the NovaCare Complex. The Eagles’ cornerback checked in with the rest of his teammates for the post-draft camp that opens tomorrow with morning and afternoon workouts.

in NFL News

The Denver Broncos on Thursday waived running back Selvin Young. They used the 12th overall pick in last weekend’s draft to take Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno, and will have a half-dozen tailbacks competing for playing time.

The Broncos also have holdovers Peyton Hillis and Ryan Torain and free agents J.J. Arrington, Correll Buckhalter and LaMont Jordan.

Young played in 23 games, making 13 starts in two seasons in Denver. He ran 201 times for 1,032 yards and two touchdowns and caught 38 passes for 247 yards.

According to NFL director of player development Chris Henry, the league decided not to send this year’s draftees to Canton, Ohio, for 2009. The idea was originally presented by Hall of Fame receiver and former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin and approved by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to increase awareness and appreciation for the league’s history.

Logistics and the economy had some level of impact on the decision, Henry said.

“We take those things into consideration when we make those decisions, clearly, because at the end of the day we’re running a business,” Henry said. “But we try not to let those decisions drive what we do and how we do it. So logistically, yeah, it took a lot to get there. But is that [the only reason] why we’re not doing it? No. We took a lot of factors into account.”

“It’s one of those things that we won’t rule out in the future,” Henry said. “I think they [the Hall of Fame] thought it was successful, as did we. So we will take a look at how it works at the symposium this year and we may revisit it. I think we were very pleased with how it went, and we will see what happens in the future.”

Last year it went great.

We all know Braylon Edwards did not have a great season last year, and a quote in ESPN The Magazine may reflect part of the reason. According to NFL safety and model Will Demps, this is how a conversation went down between Demps and Edwards during the Cleveland Browns vs. Houston Texans game on Dec. 7 last year, a contest the Browns lost, 28-9. “Last year, I was with the Texans, and when we played the Browns, Braylon Edwards asked me between plays if we could talk after the game about modeling and acting.” Edwards had plenty of time to talk during the game, too, as he finished with three catches for 38 yards.

The Saints have announced that they will remain in New Orleans through 2025. The new deal will dramtically reduce the state’s subsidy payments to the Saints.

Backup linebacker Khary Campbell said Wednesday he won’t return for a fifth season with the Washington Redskins after he rejected a minimum-salary deal. Campbell said he’s negotiating with other teams but added it’s not just about the money.

On Sunday, third-round draft choice Kevin Barnes said fellow cornerback Fred Smoot was “getting a little bit older.”

Fred Smoot said. “It don’t bother me. I’m going to take him through some things. I haven’t seen the guy. I don’t even know his name and I love football so that tells you [something]. I know who’s going to get drafted where. I didn’t know the kid.”

Seahawks coach Jim Mora said linebacker Leroy Hill could be re-signed by the end of this week during an interview with Mitch Levy on KJR-AM, indicating that there may in fact be a conclusion. This would follow Mora’s statements on Sunday at the draft when he said he talked with Hill about being at the team’s minicamp, which begins Friday.

If Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin tested positive for marijuana in February at the NFL scouting combine, he will almost certainly begin his career in Stage 1 of the league’s substance abuse program.

CBS Corp.’s Internet unit won the right to use National Football League players’ names and statistics for free in fantasy sports leagues it sponsors after a judge ruled the information is in the public domain.

Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips will go to trial on charges that he attacked his girlfriend in 2005. A San Diego judge ruled Wednesday that the 33-year-old Phillips must stand trial on eight felony charges for two alleged assaults. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
