The 2009 NFL Season is set to kick off on Thursday Night. What a fantastic time of the year. Everyone is an expert and everyone’s team looks good. But can a person actually, accurately predict the season? No chance in hell, but I can guarantee Tecmo Super Bowl can.

Doing some crafty internet research, I came across a rom for NFL 2010. I ran a simulated season through a NES emulator and these were the results. (Keep in mind these games are played in Tecmo time, if you have played the game you know what I’m talking about.)

NFC

SOUTH

Bucs Division Champs

The Bucs clinch the NFC South with an impressive 8-8 record. It seems Tecmo doesn’t like the south as not one team breaks .500.  Byron Leftwich has a solid season throwing 2,924 yards and 30 Tds. Beating out Drew Brees’ 23 TD effort. Matt Ryan had sub-par season and Jake Delhomme finally just fell apart.

NFC South

NORTH

Divisions 10

The Vikings walk away with the North title with a 14-2 record. And it wasn’t Brett Favre’s effort that did it. It was Adrian Peterson who ran for 1,825 yards and 18 TDs. Aaron Rodgers did his best to keep the Pack in it, but the defense just couldn’t get it done. Jay Cutler’s new team enjoyed his success at least, and the rookie had a great first effort.

NFC North

EAST

Giants Division Champs

The Giants take control of the East and finish the season with a 10-6 record. Both Wildcard teams for the NFC also come out of the East with the Cowboys taking the 5th spot and Redskins the 6th.

WEST

Cardinals Division Champs

The Cardinlas do the best they can to make it back to the Super Bowl. Finishing the season with a 11-5 record. Kurt Warner threw for an astonishing 4,105 yards and 39 Tds. Matt Hasselbeck had a solid season with 2,740 and 25 Tds. Check out these fantasy dream stats for the 2 QBs, and their leading WRs, Larry Fitzgerald and TJ Houshmandzadeh.

AFC

SOUTH

Colts Division Champs

The Colts stay on top of the South and clinch with a 10-6 record. Matt Schaub and the Texans are not quite there yet. Steve Slaton did his best to keep tham alive but they fell short with a 9-7 record. Maurice Jones-Drew lived up to his hype and delivered big this year.

NORTH

Ravens Division Champs

The Ravens turn a few heads and take the North from the favorite Steelers with a 10-6 ecord. But beware Flacco, the Steelers and Big Ben Roethlisberger sneak into the playoffs with a wild card berth. Carson Palmer makes a nice return to the game, and first year starter Brady Quinn has a decent run as well. But not good enough

EAST

Jets Division Champs

Surprise, surprise. The Jets and rookie coach Rex Ryan, and rookie QB Mark Sanchez clinch the AFC East with a 9-6-1 record. And who did they tie? You guessed it, The New England Patriots. Sanchez outperformed Brady in every category. Pennington had his usual solid season with less than 10 INTs.  Terrell Owens broke the 1,000 yard mark and the Bills clinch themselves a wildcard spot. Which would have been the division winner if the Jets lost to NE.

WEST

Chargers Division Champs

The AFC West doesn’t offer much of a surprise, as Phillip Rivers and the Chargers clinch it. Kyle Orton didn’t have much success with his new team. Either Matt Cassel. And JaMarcus Russell, well, yeah…
