A lot of big names changed teams this past weekend. Here are some of the biggest transactions that took place.

Chicago signs Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor - The Bears wanted Julius Peppers, and the Bears got him. They signed him to a 6 year $91 million dollar deal. With 42 million guaranteed. It seems a bit risky for a guy that is either on or off. But when he’s on, hide the kids. Chicago also brought in RB Chester Taylor to help out the run game.
Miami Signs LB Karlos Dansby – Joey Porter is gone, so the Dolphins quickly grab his replacement by signing Dansby to a 5 year $43 million, with $22 million guaranteed, contract.
Baltimore Trades for Anquan Boldin – The Ravens really needed help at the WR spot and Boldin is the perfect WR for Joe Flacco. Baltimore traded a 3rd and 4th round pick to Arizona and then went and signed Anquan to a 4 year $28 million deal.

It seems the NFL will be upgrading/updating The Lamar Hunt AFC trophy and the George Halas NFC trophy. Not that the old trophies aren’t nice. Personally I like the old school design. Reports about the Rams and Eagles talking about a trade for Donovan McNabb are not accurate. St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bryan Burwell joined Mike Gill of The Sports Bash on 97.3 ESPN Radio in South Jersey to explain that the report printed yesterday were not his words and that his copy editor screwed up.
“I hate to do this, but my copy desk screwed up my copy,” Burwell said. “I did not say that the Philadelphia Eagles and the Rams were having intense conversations. What I wrote… and I just noticed it while I’m reading my column now and I went ‘Holy crap. I didn’t say that.’ What I initially wrote was that the Rams were having intense internal conversations about acquiring Philadelphia Eagle Donoavn McNabb. There’s a difference between having intense internal conversations with the Eagles and having internal intense conversation.” Burwell is saying the Rams have had internal discussions about McNabb, not discussions with the Eagles.

Linebacker Shawne Merriman is displeased with his tender offer from the Chargers, according to his personal twitter page. He said, “Speechless today. Business is business but some things just are not right.” Merriman is not eligible to hit free agency, and a team would have to give up a first and third-round draft pick to acquire him away from the Chargers.
Marc Buger’s agent waiting on decision from Rams
There are talks occurring between the Rams and quarterback Marc Bulger’s agents to decide his fate sooner rather than later but there is no urgency to make a move prior to March 5th because there are no salary-cap implications to having Bulger on or off the roster. Because no trade can be consummated until March 5th, the Rams would only release him prior to that date if they have exhausted all potential efforts to deal him.
