Michael Vick wants to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, but that might not happen next season. And contrary to popular belief, the Philadelphia Eagles plan on keeping Vick in 2010, NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday. “They have no intention this offseason of trading Michael Vick,” Lombardi said on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access. “Many people around the league feel like that’s a lot of false bravado, (and) they’re going to release him, because he has a ($1.5 million) roster bonus due in March. Not the case.”
Patriots receiver Wes Welker underwent surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Welker was waiting and waiting to have surgery. The surgery was performed by Thomas Gill, the team doctor for the Patriots and colleague Karen Guregian was told the surgery was a grand success.
Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson wants to maintain his role as a full-time player. During a radio interview with San Diego station 1090, Tomlinson said that he “would not take a paycut under any circumstances.”
Colts center Jeff Saturday expressed some disappointment that the front office and coaching staff decided to rest starters late in the regular season. “The truth is, the decision had nothing to do with us, there was nothing we could do about it. I can tell you every player wanted to play, every player tried to play, but that wasn’t what our front office, our coach decided and as players you can’t look back, because there was no hesitation in what I would have done.” Colts center Jeff Saturday said.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak, who agreed Tuesday to sign a new three-year deal with the Texans, said in a radio interview today that running back Steve Slaton underwent neck surgery in mid-January to repair nerve damage. Kubiak told The Score 1510 in Denver that there is no timetable for Slaton’s recovery,
