Falcons WR Roddy Whitewho is the final year of a five-year contract, is holding out from training camp in hopes of landing a contract extension. He’s working out in Birmingham with Darrell Hackney, his former college quarterback and Atlanta native.

“We want Roddy here,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “There is nothing new,” he said. “We are continuing to have conversations. We are definitely heading in the right direction in my mind.”

The Jets say there is no timetable for Mark Sanchez to work with the starters.

“What we’re doing right now obviously is Kellen is getting the majority of the work with the ones, Mark gets most of the work with the twos,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Monday afternoon. “We allow them to look at most of the scripts before and really steal a couple plays from each period. That’s just set up so that we can balance the reps and we get some consistency going.”

Packers general manager Ted Thompson is not ruling out the possibility of adding free-agent QB Michael Vick.

“What is the answer that we give to questions like this? We’re always looking to improve our team,” Thompson said. “We look at all options at all times. I wouldn’t care to speculate in terms of the odds or the percentages (of signing Vick) or anything like that.” Have they discussed Vick internally? ”We look at everything,” Thompson said.

Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson said Tuesday, Aug. 4, he does not know exactly when he will be able to resume practicing with his teammates.

“[There’s] not a certain goal but just as soon as possible,” Jackson said of his return from a sprained knee. “I feel a lot better the last couple of days. I was in there [rehabbing] with [athletic trainer Eric Sugarman] just trying to do whatever they tell me to do and try to get back out here.”

Saints RB Reggie Bush returned to practice on Tuesday August 4 after missing practice on Monday due to swelling in his surgically repaired left knee.

“He had some swelling, mild, not significant, but enough to where I didn’t want to see that thing start to get irritated and prohibit him from being out for more than just a practice or two, ” coach Sean Payton said.
