Authorities have called a press conference for 4 p.m. today to address their investigation into sexual assault allegations against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Milledgeville Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have been looking into a report by a 20-year-old student at Georgia College & State University that Roethlisberger assaulted her early Friday at a nightclub.
49ers RB Frank Gore is suffering from a high ankle strain and likely will miss at least the next two games, according to a league source. The hope is that he could return after the 49ers’ Week 6 bye. “It happened,” coach Mike Singletary said following the game. “But I had every bit of confidence in Glen Coffee going into the game and did not blink.”
UPDATE *** Chad Pennington has a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and is awaiting a second opinion, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports via Twitter. Pennington is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Patriots RB Laurence Maroney left Sunday’s game against the Falcons in the second quarter with a thigh injury, finished up with four carries for 17 yards in the Patriots’ win. We’ll track Maroney’s status in the coming days.
Lions RB Kevin Smithsuffered a shoulder injury during the second half of Detroit’s win against the Redskins and did not return. The Lions wouldn’t comment on the severity of the injury, but it appeared significant.
“Yeah, Kevin’s got a shoulder and Kevin was running extremely well,” said head coach Jim Schwartz. “He was running physical and was giving hits, taking hits, and things like that. “He’s got a shoulder (injury), I don’t know where it’s going to be. We’ll have a lot of tests he’ll wind up doing tomorrow.”
Rams QB Marc Bulgerwill undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of an injury sustained to his throwing shoulder during the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Bulger said he was injured when he was hit by Aaron Kampman as he was cocking to throw then went back out on the field for the Rams’ next offensive series, but he aggravated the injury trying to recover a fumble by running back Steven Jackson.
Rams WR Laurent Robinson exited the game against Green Bay in the second quarter with a lower right leg injury.
Earlier this week, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco said he would do a Lambeau Leapif he scored a touchdown at Green Bay on Sunday. He did and ran towards the stands and spotted a small group of Bengals fans in the front row near the end zone, then leaped into the crowd just like Green Bay players do after they score.
“It was fun,” Ochocinco said. “I had a little indecision on where to jump at first. I didn’t want to disrespect their tradition, so I was asking as I went along the line. I saw some Bengals fans that said it was OK.”
***UPDATED***Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker – Troy Williamson left the game with a shoulder injury and Sims-Walker had 101 yards and a TD. If Williamson stays out, this guy will be a decent option.
Jacksonville placed receiver Troy Williamsonon the injured reserve on Monday, after he sustained a torn labrum in his right shoulder Sunday during the Jags’ loss to Arizona. Williamson’s absence means the Jags will promote Mike Sims-Walker to the No. 2 receiving spot.
Bills QB Trent Edwards – Edwards had a good game against Tampa Bay. throwing for 230 and 2 TDs. Next week he is going to be passing all day to try and keep up with Drew Brees.
Eagles QB Kevin Kolb – Kolb had great numbers against the Saints except for the 2 INTs. 391 yds, 2TDs. He can be a good fill in for next week against the Chiefs.
Giants WRs Mario Manningham and Steve Smith - Both of these guys may be available, and both of them had 10 catches on Sunday Night against the Cowboys.
Rams WR Laurent Robinson – Donnie Avery is struggling and Robinson is getting the looks. 141 yards and 2 TDs in the first 2 weeks.
Eagles TE Brent Celek – 2 weeks, 2 stud performances. 8 grabs for 104 yards.
