Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, speaking from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., site of Sunday’s Super Bowl, told WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone that running back Chris Johnson would likely have to wait regarding any extension, especially with a contract that contains three more seasons currently. “We’ve done things prior to players going into the last year of their contract. For me to come out right now, it’s way too premature to say we have any intention of doing anything for CJ.” Fisher said.

New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas made it pretty clear that he doesn’t anticipate being in a Patriots uniform in 2010. “I want to come somewhere where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna have fun, if I’m not gonna do that, that’s not where I’m gonna be.” Thomas said.

Injuries

49ers RB Frank Gore is suffering from a high ankle strain and likely will miss at least the next two games, according to a league source. The hope is that he could return after the 49ers’ Week 6 bye. “It happened,” coach Mike Singletary said following the game. “But I had every bit of confidence in Glen Coffee going into the game and did not blink.”

UPDATE *** Chad Pennington has a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and is awaiting a second opinion, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports via Twitter. Pennington is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Dolphins QB Chad Pennington was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the Chargers with an injury to his right shoulder. Pennington was thrown to the ground after throwing an incomplete pass on third-and-7 from the Dolphins 40. He was slow to get up, then once he got to the sideline, took off his helmet and shoulder pads and had a bag of ice on his shoulder. The Dolphins might be without quarterback Chad Pennington for next week’s AFC clash against the Buffalo Bills.

Patriots RB Laurence Maroney left Sunday’s game against the Falcons in the second quarter with a thigh injury, finished up with four carries for 17 yards in the Patriots’ win. We’ll track Maroney’s status in the coming days.

Lions RB Kevin Smith suffered a shoulder injury during the second half of Detroit’s win against the Redskins and did not return. The Lions wouldn’t comment on the severity of the injury, but it appeared significant.

“Yeah, Kevin’s got a shoulder and Kevin was running extremely well,” said head coach Jim Schwartz. “He was running physical and was giving hits, taking hits, and things like that. “He’s got a shoulder (injury), I don’t know where it’s going to be. We’ll have a lot of tests he’ll wind up doing tomorrow.”

Rams QB Marc Bulger will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of an injury sustained to his throwing shoulder during the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Bulger said he was injured when he was hit by Aaron Kampman as he was cocking to throw then went back out on the field for the Rams’ next offensive series, but he aggravated the injury trying to recover a fumble by running back Steven Jackson.

Rams WR Laurent Robinson exited the game against Green Bay in the second quarter with a lower right leg injury.

Fantasy Football 2009 Week 3 Quarterback Rankings

Post image for Fantasy Football 2009 Week 3 Quarterback Rankings

1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) @ Buffalo Bills – Do I really need to explain this? Brees is the Best QB in the NFL right now. Nobody can stop him.

2. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) @ Arizona – Peyton and Kurt Warner are going to light up the scoreboards against each other in week 3. And if you own Manning this is exactly the type of game you love. Sit back, relax and enjoy another 300+ yard game and at least 2 TDs.

3. Tom Brady (New England Patriots) vs. Atlanta – Brady got his ass beat up last week against the Jets defense. My Jets still haven’t allowed a TD. This week against Atlanta he may find himself smack dab in the middle of the other shoot out of week 3. Brady will be looking to bounce back against the Falcons who just allowed Jake Delhomme to have a 300 yard game.

4. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) @ St. Louis – Threw for 261 yards and a TD last week. Kinda expected more against the Bengals. Kinda had him ranked first. Either way the numbers were still solid, and he has an easier match up this week against the Rams. The Rams have been giving up over 250 yards a game to QBs and 1.5 TDs.

5. Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) @ New England – 549 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT. That is not a bad 2 week stat line. Ryan New England will be playing pissed after the JETS loss. Ryan will be playing catch u with Brady and the Pats, which means plenty of passing. And he’s got plenty of options to throw to. 275/2
