A lot of big names changed teams this past weekend. Here are some of the biggest transactions that took place.

Chicago signs Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor - The Bears wanted Julius Peppers, and the Bears got him. They signed him to a 6 year $91 million dollar deal. With 42 million guaranteed. It seems a bit risky for a guy that is either on or off. But when he’s on, hide the kids. Chicago also brought in RB Chester Taylor to help out the run game.
Miami Signs LB Karlos Dansby – Joey Porter is gone, so the Dolphins quickly grab his replacement by signing Dansby to a 5 year $43 million, with $22 million guaranteed, contract.
Baltimore Trades for Anquan Boldin – The Ravens really needed help at the WR spot and Boldin is the perfect WR for Joe Flacco. Baltimore traded a 3rd and 4th round pick to Arizona and then went and signed Anquan to a 4 year $28 million deal.

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, speaking from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., site of Sunday’s Super Bowl, told WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone that running back Chris Johnson would likely have to wait regarding any extension, especially with a contract that contains three more seasons currently. “We’ve done things prior to players going into the last year of their contract. For me to come out right now, it’s way too premature to say we have any intention of doing anything for CJ.” Fisher said.
New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas made it pretty clear that he doesn’t anticipate being in a Patriots uniform in 2010. “I want to come somewhere where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna have fun, if I’m not gonna do that, that’s not where I’m gonna be.” Thomas said.

The Falcons unveiled Thursday the throwback jerseys they will wear for two games this season. The Falcons will wear them when they play host to the defending NFC South champion Carolina Panthers on Sept. 20. They will wear them again when Tampa Bay comes to the Georgia Dome on Nov. 29.
Bears RB Matt Forte likely will get at least half a dozen carries Saturday night when the Bears host the Giants at Soldier Field. “He needs to get some work,” said offensive coordinator Ron Turner.
Eagles coach Andy Reid left open the possibility last night that Michael Vick would play in the team’s third exhibition game next week, but he would not guarantee it. “He had a good week of work,” Reid said. “He got a good workout in today. We’ll see how he does next week. We’re shooting for the third game. We’ll see. We’ve just got to get a feel on him throughout the week.” [click to continue…]

The Dolphins have kept tabs and spoken casually with agents about a few unsigned cornerbacks, primarily Mike McKenzie and Travis Fisher, in case there are injuries in camp or if Eric Green and rookies Sean Smith and Vontae Davis struggle. Still, a roster addition seems unlikely, with Miami eager to develop its rookies.
General manager Jeff Ireland said there had been just “preliminary discussions” with first-rounder Vontae Davis and agent Todd France to this point. Ireland said he expected to get the team’s five remaining unsigned draft picks under contract before training camp opens Aug. 1, but added no further deals were close to being announced.
“We expect to get it done, for sure,” Ireland said. “That’s obviously our goal. When we’re going to get it done, we don’t know that. It’s always a crunch.”
Dolphins TE Anthony Fasano, 25, enters the final year of a contract that will pay him $535,000 this season, no talks regarding an extension have taken place. Apparently, both sides are content with seeing how this year works out despite it being a calculated risk by both sides since there is a chance that 2010 will be an uncapped year. From the Dolphins’ perspective, should a new labor agreement be forged in time to keep the salary cap in place for 2010, Fasano could get really expensive should he build on his breakthrough year.
Jason Taylor sounds happy to be back with the Miami Dolphins, and he’s quick to point out why things are so different a year after his departure to the Washington Redskins.
“[Bill] Parcells and [GM Jeff] Ireland and their front office is a big step up from what was here in the past,” Taylor told the Miami Herald. “I know I haven’t played a game for them yet, but I’m ready to run through a brick wall for them.”
