The Top NFL Moves of the Weekend

A lot of big names changed teams this past weekend. Here are some of the biggest transactions that took place.

Chicago signs Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor - The Bears wanted Julius Peppers, and the Bears got him. They signed him to a 6 year $91 million dollar deal. With 42 million guaranteed. It seems a bit risky for a guy that is either on or off. But when he’s on, hide the kids. Chicago also brought in RB Chester Taylor to help out the run game.

Miami Signs LB Karlos DansbyJoey Porter is gone, so the Dolphins quickly grab his replacement by signing Dansby to a 5 year $43 million, with $22 million guaranteed, contract.

Baltimore Trades for Anquan Boldin – The Ravens really needed help at the WR spot and Boldin is the perfect WR for Joe Flacco. Baltimore traded a 3rd and 4th round pick to Arizona and then went and signed Anquan to a 4 year $28 million deal.

Back at the Pro Bowl a few weeks ago, Nnamdi Asomugha was screwing around and mentioned how he would love to play for the Jets. “Me and Revis have been talking to Rex (Ryan) to try to do something,” Asomugha said that night. “You may see us in the future. There’s a little bit of talk going on. Either he’s coming to Oakland or something else will happen.” of course every Jets fan fan smiled from ear to ear at just the prospect of having him alongside Darrelle Revis. Believe it or not, this closer to becoming a reality than you may think.

There has been a ton of LT stuff going around and by the looks of things it seems he will not be back in San Diego next season. Not to long after the Bolts got upset by the Jets (DAMN Right), LT wasn’t happy with his role in the offense. He told a San Diego radio station that he wasn’t happy with his role this season, when he had career lows in carries (223) and rushing yards (730).

“I did the things that I could with this year’s team, I felt that every year, whatever this team needed me to do, I gave my heart and soul to it.” Sports Radio Interviews

Tomlinson said that he “would not take a paycut under any circumstances.” When asked if he thinks he’ll return, he replied: “I’m not really sure, I can see a lot of things happening, I just kind of leave it open, I spent a lot of years here and enjoy football a lot and enjoy being around the guys in the locker room.”

But how much does he enjoy the guys in the locker room. He recently questioned the commitment of some of his teammates. “I didn’t feel the unity and the togetherness in the locker room. We’re at a point where guys come into the league and it’s not about the same values anymore. … I just can’t deal with that type of stuff.”

A Colts‘ spokesman said Dwight Freeney suffered “a third-degree, low basketball ankle sprain” in their Jan. 24 AFC Championship Game victory over the New York Jets, which is basically a torn ligament. “We expect him to be questionable for the Super Bowl.” Craig Kelley said Sunday night.

Jets center Nick Mangold told the Daily News that he’s hoping to sign a long-term extension before the start of the 2010 season. “I know and I hope they’ll do the right thing, but I’m not too worried about it right now.” Mangold said after the Pro Bowl. Mangold is entering his fifth season and, thanks to an esclator in his contract, he’s due to make $3.3 million.
