Brett Favre has a message for his fans but none for the Minnesota Vikings at this point. On his official website, Favre thanks his fans for a “memorable season,” and goes on to say that, “while the season didn’t end in Miami as we had all hoped, I couldn’t have enjoyed this season any more than I did.” Toward the end of his five paragraph statement, Favre says, “regardless of what the future holds, I want everyone to know that I will cherish the memories of the past year for the rest of my life.”
Browns wide receiver/return specialist Joshua Cribbs was convinced he would never get the contract he wanted and never play for the Browns again after he was given a “take it or leave it” offer of $1.4 million for six years. Now Cribbs has reversed his field because his agent and the Browns reopened negotiations and are close to a new deal. On Thursday morning, Cribbs told WKNR-AM 850 he could have a new contract before the NFL scouting combine begins on Feb. 25. “It’s going really well,” Cribbs said. “I’ll be really happy when it’s final and done. I expect it sometime here before the combine, something like that, soon, very soon. I’m satisfied how they’re moving and how quickly they’re moving.”

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook experienced pain in his ankle while rehabbing the knee. Westbrook may just sit out the entire preseason and take his first snap in the Sept. 13 opener against Carolina.
The Browns No. 2 receiver spot is up for grabs. It’s a role Joshua Cribbs is seeking, hoping to duplicate his impact as an offensive and defensive special teams ace. Now Cribbs has set his sights on the Browns’ opening at No. 2 receiver. He believes that’s given him something even bigger to prove. ”That’s all I hear. ‘He can’t catch the ball. He can’t do this. He can’t do that.’ I love it,” Cribbs said after practice Monday. ”Now I’ve got to go out there and prove I can catch the ball. I’m working real hard to be in the running to be a No. 2. I’m going to keep showing the coaches I can be that guy.” [click to continue…]
Browns WR Joshua Cribbs said after Wednesday’s voluntary team workout that his contract issues have not been resolved, but he’s happy to be back on the football field. Speaking for the first time since his contract dispute went public, Cribbs said it was more important to be with his teammates as they learn a different system under new coach Eric Mangini.
“I’m here to play football, and however way it works itself out I’m going to be on this football team,” Cribbs said. “Hopefully everything works out in both of our favors, and we can make a compromise with myself and the team.” He is hopeful something will get done but didn’t state whether he would play out the season or request a trade if there was no progress.
The reason for the surprising decision of Cribbs to report for voluntary practices this week wasn’t clear as of Monday night. Per a league source, the Browns indicated that, in order to address Cribbs’ contract, they need to examine first-hand his potential value to the team. And so, as a good-faith gesture, Cribbs has decided to participate in the voluntary sessions in order to give the new regime a fair opportunity to determine whether he’s worth significantly more than the long-term deal he signed in 2006.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Joshua Cribbs, upset that the new management team hasn’t initiated talks to re-do his contract, has asked to be traded. Not only did Cribbs inform the team of his request, but he issued a lengthy statement to notify Browns fans of his intentions as well.
Browns coach Eric Mangini said he met Thursday morning with disgruntled receiver Joshua Cribbs at the Browns facility in Berea. He said Cribbs, who’s skipping voluntary minicamp until the Browns address his contract, attended a full squad meeting Thursday morning.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger does not have cancer, and neither does he have a Facebook page. “There’s no truth to it. I don’t have any of that stuff,” the Steelers quarterback proclaimed yesterday. “That stuff” are accounts on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and any other social networking Web sites. Roethlisberger said he does not use them, including the one under his name that proclaimed he had skin cancer.
A reporter asked Bears QB Jay Cutler what he thought the Bears’ offensive philosophy would be. Here was Jay’s answer, “We’re going to run the ball. I think I’ve learned the hard way that you’ve got to run the ball and you’ve got to stop the run to get anywhere in this league, to make the playoffs and make a push for the Super Bowl, so that’s not going to change. Especially here in December with the wind and the weather, you’ve got to grind out those 4 or 5 yard runs and get yourself to a manageable position,” Cutler said.
By the way, the Bears announced their Training Camp Schedule…
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made contact with free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress to gauge his offseason progress, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The conversation was explained as exploratory and that the call focused mainly on Burress’ well-being. The New York Jets are reportedly the other team that has inquired about the former Super Bowl MVP.
Vikings coach Brad Childress said of Brett Favre “He’s retired, so it’s not relevant and it’s not any of my focus right now,” Childress said following the Vikings’ third day or organized team activities. ” … I’m really focused on the guys that are here on this football team, both old and young. But I’m not spending any time on [Favre].”
