A lot of big names changed teams this past weekend. Here are some of the biggest transactions that took place.

Chicago signs Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor - The Bears wanted Julius Peppers, and the Bears got him. They signed him to a 6 year $91 million dollar deal. With 42 million guaranteed. It seems a bit risky for a guy that is either on or off. But when he’s on, hide the kids. Chicago also brought in RB Chester Taylor to help out the run game.
Miami Signs LB Karlos Dansby – Joey Porter is gone, so the Dolphins quickly grab his replacement by signing Dansby to a 5 year $43 million, with $22 million guaranteed, contract.
Baltimore Trades for Anquan Boldin – The Ravens really needed help at the WR spot and Boldin is the perfect WR for Joe Flacco. Baltimore traded a 3rd and 4th round pick to Arizona and then went and signed Anquan to a 4 year $28 million deal.

The Panthers have until this Thursday to place the franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers. A source in the organization has indicated to Newschannel 36 that Peppers is finished with the team, and they will not pony up the twenty million plus that would be required to keep him for another year under the tag allowing him to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
Things could get rough for Peppers. Peter King tweets “Had an NFL exec tell me this weekend he thought Peppers would be lucky to get $10m a year in this climate.”

The Chargers are taking a wait-and-see approach in with WR Vincent Jackson’s long-term future with the team, he is coming off consecutive career years, yet due to the specter of 2010 being uncapped, he will likely be a restricted free agent, under the club’s control with no multiyear contract yet being discussed between the parties
Cowboys WR Miles Austin, who is an impending restricted free agent, said he wants to re-sign with the team during the offseason but knows that the decision is up to the Cowboys. The Cowboys likely will tender him an offer that would give them a first-round and third-round draft choice if another team signs him and the Cowboys do not match.

The Panthers announced this afternoon that defensive end Julius Peppers signed his offer sheet and will play for the team this season. He has a guaranteed $16.683 million base salary — the amount of his offer sheet as a franchise free agent, plus an incentive of $1.5 million if he makes the Pro Bowl and $250,000 per each playoff win up to and including the Super Bowl.
“Julius is more than satisfied with the outcome and is looking forward instead of backward,” Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey said. “He is motivated. He’s prepared and he’s ready to play football.”
Peppers has a one-year contract. If the Panthers franchise him again next year, they’ll have to make him a tender offer of around $20 million and a total deal, counting incentives, worth more than $22 million.
“We have had very good communication with Carl throughout the process and all the indications were that Julius was going top sign in time to be in for training camp,” General manager Marty Hurney said. “That’s what happened today. Obviously we’re very excited and I think Julius is excited.”
Dolphin Stadium, which has not had a corporate name since 2005, likely will complete a naming rights deal with Landshark Lager, a beer brewed by Anheuser-Busch, the stadium’s president said Friday morning. The stadium could be renamed Landshark Stadium, though Dolphin Stadium president Bruce Schulze would not confirm the exact likely new name. ”We’ve been in conversations,” Schulze said, declining to comment further. A second person close to the talks said the sides had discussed a short-term deal, perhaps only for one year or less, but the length remained under discussions.
You’ve undoubtedly been hearing some buzz this week about free agent DE Jason Taylor in connection with the Buccaneers. We continue to maintain that Taylor will not be in a Buccaneers uniform.
Obviously, Julius Peppers wasn’t at camp…
Jim Zorn spoke with the media and had updates on some injuries. He said that Santana Moss was very limited by shin splints and that James Thrash is out with a neck injury but should be back for the June organized activities.
Quarterback Pat White entered Miami Dolphins mini camp with a jammed finger on his hand and will not take snaps from under center during all of mini camp, but he is throwing the ball.
An attorney for Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson has asked the court to suppress evidence obtained as a result of Jackson’s Jan. 6 arrest on suspicion of drunken driving. In a motion filed Thursday in San Diego Superior Court, Jackson’s attorney said Jackson was forced to have his blood drawn “against his will” after repeatedly requesting a breath test instead, as was his right. Jackson’s blood-alcohol content measured 0.17 percent, according to court records.
WR Anquan Boldin and DE Darnell Dockett didn’t practice because they informed the team during physicals Thursday that they had hamstring problems. The club sent them for MRIs.
