LaDainian Tomlinson is Released by Chargers

in NFL News

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers all-time leading rusher, was released today after nine seasons in San Diego. Chargers President Dean Spanos met with Tomlinson today and informed his veteran running back that he is being released. “This is a part of the business that I hate, and it’s particularly hard when you’re dealing with someone I consider a friend,” Spanos said.

“Change involving great players is never easy. I respect LT as much or more than any player I’ve ever known. And no one appreciates his contributions to this organization more than I do. That is why this is such a difficult announcement for me to make. “It has been a privilege to work with him and witness his entire career. I’m proud of him and grateful to him for the way he has carried himself both on and off the field. “No matter where he chooses to continue his career, in my mind LT will always be a San Diego Charger. His legacy as one of the greatest running backs the game has ever seen will be as a Charger.”

What Will Happen with LaDainian Tomlinson?

by Joe Tailgate on February 5, 2010

in NFL News

There has been a ton of LT stuff going around and by the looks of things it seems he will not be back in San Diego next season. Not to long after the Bolts got upset by the Jets (DAMN Right), LT wasn’t happy with his role in the offense. He told a San Diego radio station that he wasn’t happy with his role this season, when he had career lows in carries (223) and rushing yards (730).

“I did the things that I could with this year’s team, I felt that every year, whatever this team needed me to do, I gave my heart and soul to it.” Sports Radio Interviews

Tomlinson said that he “would not take a paycut under any circumstances.” When asked if he thinks he’ll return, he replied: “I’m not really sure, I can see a lot of things happening, I just kind of leave it open, I spent a lot of years here and enjoy football a lot and enjoy being around the guys in the locker room.”

But how much does he enjoy the guys in the locker room. He recently questioned the commitment of some of his teammates. “I didn’t feel the unity and the togetherness in the locker room. We’re at a point where guys come into the league and it’s not about the same values anymore. … I just can’t deal with that type of stuff.”

Around The NFL for Wednesday February 3 2010

Michael Vick wants to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, but that might not happen next season. And contrary to popular belief, the Philadelphia Eagles plan on keeping Vick in 2010, NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday. “They have no intention this offseason of trading Michael Vick,” Lombardi said on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access. “Many people around the league feel like that’s a lot of false bravado, (and) they’re going to release him, because he has a ($1.5 million) roster bonus due in March. Not the case.”

Patriots receiver Wes Welker underwent surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Welker was waiting and waiting to have surgery. The surgery was performed by Thomas Gill, the team doctor for the Patriots and colleague Karen Guregian was told the surgery was a grand success.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo said today the ankle injury he suffered on Sunday is not major and he expects to be at “100%” against the Giants on Sunday night. “I’ll be fine,” Romo said. “There’s nothing wrong with it.”

Saints RB Pierre Thomas practiced fully on Wednesday and reiterated after practice that he will play on Sunday. He wore a large brace on his knee during practice and had his knee wrapped in ice afterward.

Browns RB Jamal Lewis was limited in practice Wednesday because of an unspecified neck injury. He went down with an apparent stinger in his neck after a 15-yard run in the first half.

  • Jerome Harrison could see his first game action Sunday in Denver. Harrison began his second day in a row of full participation in practice on Thursday. “He’s made great strides over the week,” coach Eric Mangini said. “He had a pretty good week last week, but I just thought it was better to give him another week. I like the way he looked (this week). I’m encouraged by his continued progress.”

Is LaDainian Tomlinson going to play? I hate this day to day crap, but all indications are that he will not play in week 2. “We don’t have to play him like we did a year ago when his toe was bothering him,” Turner told the paper of Tomlinson. “That’s why Michael is here.” Michael being Michael Bennett. Stay tuned we are following this.

Wide receiver Hank Baskett, who was released by Philadelphia Tuesday, has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to his agent.

Fantasy Football 2009 Week 1 Running Back Rankings

by Joe Tailgate on September 10, 2009

in Fantasy Football

Post image for Fantasy Football 2009 Week 1 Running Back Rankings

1. Adrian Peterson (Vikings) @ Cleveland – Peterson opens up with a favorable run starting with the Browns in week 1. Cleveland’s defense was brutal last year. Even if they got better, they will still be pretty brutal. All Day should light up the Browns All Day, HA!

2. LaDainian Tomlinson (Chargers) @ Oakland – LT is not the same LT as years past, but he still a stud with a sweet matchup in week 1. The Raiders rush defense leaves plenty to be desired and LT has killed them in the past.

3. Michael Turner (Falcons) vs. Miami - The burner was the free agent signing of the decade for the Falcons. Atlanta brought in Tony Gonzalez and that will help open up lanes for Turner. Miami’s defense is ok against the run, but not good enough to hold MT down.

4. Steven Jackson (Rams) @ Seattle – Jackson might be on a terrible team, but he is far from a terrible back, and the Seahawks rush defense is far from good. So as far as I can tell, Jackson should in for a fine day, even though the game takes place in Seattle.
