- Through Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple, owner and general manager Jerry Jones has denied plans to bring back cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones. According to a report, the owner said he was considering bringing Jones back six months after the team cut the cornerback although the team has not contacted Jones’ agent, Worrick Robinson.
- Rams FS O.J. Atogwe has yet to sign the Rams’ one-year, $6.342 million franchise offer, he continues to fully participate in OTA’s without complaint, a gesture that has been noticed by the Rams, “They probably will reward him with a long-term deal at some point”
- Patriots G Logan Mankins would love to remian with New England. He is in the final year of his contract and he is participating in the team’s OTAs. “I signed a contract. I feel obligated to be here,” he explained this morning. “When my contract is up, that’s when I’ll move on. I’d love to stay here,” he said. “Who knows if I get to or not.”
- The Raiders signed QB Charlie Frye, per the team’s transactions page. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco is declaring the 2009 Bengals are better on paper than the 2005 ancestors that won the AFC North. “The defense is sick now they’re so good and we’ll be better on offense because I’ll be better,” Ochocinco said. “I’m in unbelievable shape. I can run the Boston Marathon without stopping.” The Ocho said he spoke to quarterback Carson Palmer for about “40 to 45 minutes” for the first time since the end of the season. “I know people are trying to say we’re mad at each other and all that, but we’re good,” he said.
- On Sirius NFL radio on “The Sirius Blitz” with hosts Adam Schein and Jim Miller, 49ers GM Scot McCloughan was asked by Miller about the rumors that the 49ers have an interest in Falcons QB Michael Vick. “Well, I think what happens there, and I totally respect it, is people understand who Mike Singletary is and understand that he has no problem giving guys second chances. Coach and I have sat down. We sat down and talked last week. We had an off-week of OTAs and we discussed about Michael Vick and we’re not going to go that route. We will not do it.” McCloughan answered. Co-Host Adam Schein asked again, “So Michael Vick is not on the radar for the 49ers?” McCloughan responded, “Correct.”
Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian could barely hide his excitement last week when talking to Star-Tribune reporter Chip Scoggins about the potential of playing with Brett Favre. Well, Berrian’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, weighed in on the topic through Twitter. Wrote Rosenhaus: “Look for Bernard Berrian to explode next season if the Vikings sign Favre. They will be unstoppable! BB can run deep & Favre can throw it deep.”
Staying with Minnesota…
The agent for Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield said that talks of an extension with the Vikings have broken down. “There are no active negotiations and there are no further talks planned,” Ashanti Webb said in a text message.
Quarterback Jason Campbell has expressed optimism that the Washington Redskins‘ offense will be better this season. In large part, because of wide receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly.”With Devin and Malcolm, we’ve seen the talent these guys have,” he said. “Both of these guys can make plays, they can do things to really help us reach the level we need to as an offense, they’ve just got to be able to stay on the field, get comfortable and do what they do.”
After two spectacular seasons, wide receiver Roddy White and the Atlanta Falcons are in discussions for a contract extension. White, who is set to make $2.28 million next season under his current contract, said he would like to enter the season with his contract situations resolved. “Whenever it happens, it happens,” White said. “We’ll just wait around for it.”
Apparently the Browns refused first round trade offers for Brady Quinn.
The New York Jets are not interested in Pacman Jones.
Ravens cornerback Fabian Washington had offseason neck surgery as well as a procedure on his shoulder. Doctors fused vertebrae in Washington’s neck. “I feel great,” Washington said.
Raiders QB Jeff Garcia is fine with being called a “mentor” by Cable, and had some interesting observations about what Russell can pick up from watching him. “Deep inside we’re all competitors and we all play this game to be on the field, to not be on the sidelines,” Garcia said.
Javon Walker said he did not tell Raiders officials about last month’s knee surgery because he didn’t want to “bother” them with it before the draft. He said the right knee has bothered him since 2007 knee surgery in Denver, and that he hasn’t felt better than 65 percent healthy.
