Authorities have called a press conference for 4 p.m. today to address their investigation into sexual assault allegations against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Milledgeville Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have been looking into a report by a 20-year-old student at Georgia College & State University that Roethlisberger assaulted her early Friday at a nightclub.

The Panthers have until this Thursday to place the franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers. A source in the organization has indicated to Newschannel 36 that Peppers is finished with the team, and they will not pony up the twenty million plus that would be required to keep him for another year under the tag allowing him to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
Things could get rough for Peppers. Peter King tweets “Had an NFL exec tell me this weekend he thought Peppers would be lucky to get $10m a year in this climate.”

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, speaking from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., site of Sunday’s Super Bowl, told WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone that running back Chris Johnson would likely have to wait regarding any extension, especially with a contract that contains three more seasons currently. “We’ve done things prior to players going into the last year of their contract. For me to come out right now, it’s way too premature to say we have any intention of doing anything for CJ.” Fisher said.
New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas made it pretty clear that he doesn’t anticipate being in a Patriots uniform in 2010. “I want to come somewhere where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna have fun, if I’m not gonna do that, that’s not where I’m gonna be.” Thomas said.

There has been a ton of LT stuff going around and by the looks of things it seems he will not be back in San Diego next season. Not to long after the Bolts got upset by the Jets (DAMN Right), LT wasn’t happy with his role in the offense. He told a San Diego radio station that he wasn’t happy with his role this season, when he had career lows in carries (223) and rushing yards (730).
“I did the things that I could with this year’s team, I felt that every year, whatever this team needed me to do, I gave my heart and soul to it.” Sports Radio Interviews
Tomlinson said that he “would not take a paycut under any circumstances.” When asked if he thinks he’ll return, he replied: “I’m not really sure, I can see a lot of things happening, I just kind of leave it open, I spent a lot of years here and enjoy football a lot and enjoy being around the guys in the locker room.”
But how much does he enjoy the guys in the locker room. He recently questioned the commitment of some of his teammates. “I didn’t feel the unity and the togetherness in the locker room. We’re at a point where guys come into the league and it’s not about the same values anymore. … I just can’t deal with that type of stuff.”

Michael Vick wants to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, but that might not happen next season. And contrary to popular belief, the Philadelphia Eagles plan on keeping Vick in 2010, NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday. “They have no intention this offseason of trading Michael Vick,” Lombardi said on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access. “Many people around the league feel like that’s a lot of false bravado, (and) they’re going to release him, because he has a ($1.5 million) roster bonus due in March. Not the case.”
Patriots receiver Wes Welker underwent surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Welker was waiting and waiting to have surgery. The surgery was performed by Thomas Gill, the team doctor for the Patriots and colleague Karen Guregian was told the surgery was a grand success.
