What Will Happen with LaDainian Tomlinson?

by Joe Tailgate on February 5, 2010

in NFL News

There has been a ton of LT stuff going around and by the looks of things it seems he will not be back in San Diego next season. Not to long after the Bolts got upset by the Jets (DAMN Right), LT wasn’t happy with his role in the offense. He told a San Diego radio station that he wasn’t happy with his role this season, when he had career lows in carries (223) and rushing yards (730).

“I did the things that I could with this year’s team, I felt that every year, whatever this team needed me to do, I gave my heart and soul to it.” Sports Radio Interviews

Tomlinson said that he “would not take a paycut under any circumstances.” When asked if he thinks he’ll return, he replied: “I’m not really sure, I can see a lot of things happening, I just kind of leave it open, I spent a lot of years here and enjoy football a lot and enjoy being around the guys in the locker room.”

But how much does he enjoy the guys in the locker room. He recently questioned the commitment of some of his teammates. “I didn’t feel the unity and the togetherness in the locker room. We’re at a point where guys come into the league and it’s not about the same values anymore. … I just can’t deal with that type of stuff.”

Waiver Wire

***UPDATED***Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker – Troy Williamson left the game with a shoulder injury and Sims-Walker had 101 yards and a TD. If Williamson stays out, this guy will be a decent option.

Jacksonville placed receiver Troy Williamson on the injured reserve on Monday, after he sustained a torn labrum in his right shoulder Sunday during the Jags’ loss to Arizona. Williamson’s absence means the Jags will promote Mike Sims-Walker to the No. 2 receiving spot.

Bills QB Trent Edwards – Edwards had a good game against Tampa Bay. throwing for 230 and 2 TDs. Next week he is going to be passing all day to try and keep up with Drew Brees.

Eagles QB Kevin Kolb – Kolb had great numbers against the Saints except for the 2 INTs. 391 yds, 2TDs. He can be a good fill in for next week against the Chiefs.

Giants WRs Mario Manningham and Steve Smith - Both of these guys may be available, and both of them had 10 catches on Sunday Night against the Cowboys.

Rams WR Laurent Robinson – Donnie Avery is struggling and Robinson is getting the looks. 141 yards and 2 TDs in the first 2 weeks.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo said today the ankle injury he suffered on Sunday is not major and he expects to be at “100%” against the Giants on Sunday night. “I’ll be fine,” Romo said. “There’s nothing wrong with it.”

Saints RB Pierre Thomas practiced fully on Wednesday and reiterated after practice that he will play on Sunday. He wore a large brace on his knee during practice and had his knee wrapped in ice afterward.

Browns RB Jamal Lewis was limited in practice Wednesday because of an unspecified neck injury. He went down with an apparent stinger in his neck after a 15-yard run in the first half.

  • Jerome Harrison could see his first game action Sunday in Denver. Harrison began his second day in a row of full participation in practice on Thursday. “He’s made great strides over the week,” coach Eric Mangini said. “He had a pretty good week last week, but I just thought it was better to give him another week. I like the way he looked (this week). I’m encouraged by his continued progress.”

Is LaDainian Tomlinson going to play? I hate this day to day crap, but all indications are that he will not play in week 2. “We don’t have to play him like we did a year ago when his toe was bothering him,” Turner told the paper of Tomlinson. “That’s why Michael is here.” Michael being Michael Bennett. Stay tuned we are following this.

Wide receiver Hank Baskett, who was released by Philadelphia Tuesday, has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to his agent.

Waiver Wire

Ravens QB Joe Flacco – After a monster week 1, it might not be a bad idea to grab Flacco if he is available. Couple of reasons. It’s always nice to have a reliable back-up on yur roster for bye-weeks and injuries. But other managers might fall victim to the injury bug, and he can be trade bait later in the season.

Buccaneers RB Carnell Williams - What a pleasant surprie Cadillac was. 97 yards and a TD on 13 carries. If the Bucs were in the game, he would have had more touches. He has a nice stretch to end the season onto the fantasy playoffs. Starting with week 9. GB, MIA, NO, ATL, CAR, JETS, SEA (wk 15), NO (wk 16)

Saints RB Mike Bell – The guy ran for 148 yards on 28 carries yesterday. go get him. Especially if you have Pierre Thomas. And Hurry.

Colts WRs Pierre Garcon & Austin Collie – Anthony Gonzalez will be out for 2-6 weeks. One of these 2 guys need to fill his role. NFL.com’s Colts Depth Chart has Collie as AG’s backup.

Jets TE Dustin Keller – Mark Sanchez got plenty of use out of the Jets best receiving option. If he is available, go get him. He will put up low end TE1 numbers. [click to continue…]

Saints running back Reggie Bush removed himself from practice this morning and watched the remainder of the outdoors workout with his left knee wrapped in ice.

Bush, who underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in December, has missed several practices already this training camp, one as a precautionary measure and the other when his surgically repaired knee became inflamed.

Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson was back on the practice field Wednesday, and participated in all drills. He missed a couple of days because of a left knee MCL sprain

Brian Seltzer, of 950 ESPN Philadelphia, twittered that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook was running for coach Andy Reid. Things seem positive and Westy may be back soon.

Very interesting. Right now Andy Reid watching Brian Westbrook run cutting conditioning drills. He’s simulating running thru tacklers…

Rick Burkholder is there as well. Looks like they’re trying to determine the extent of what he can do. He’s moving uninhibited

Going at full speed. First time Andy has observed Westbrook in this fashion. His conclusions could be instrumental in determining his return

Andy and Brian handshake it out. Seemed very, very positive. Workout lasted 10 min. This could signal a return is imminent. Stay tuned…

Giants QB Eli Manning is on the verge of signing a six-year contract extension. The deal could be finalized Wednesday, Aug. 5, barring any major setbacks, according to a team source. The deal will make Manning the highest-paid player in the history of the Giants organization as well as the highest-paid quarterback per year in NFL history.
