Contract talks between the Eagles and Jeremy Maclin heated up yesterday afternoon, according to a high-ranking team official familiar with the negotiations. The team official said that although little significant progress was made, the Eagles were encouraged by the fact that at least communication with Maclin’s agent picked up. Maclin, the 19th pick in the draft, has missed the first five practices of training camp at Lehigh and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said the missed time could be costly for Maclin, a wide receiver out of Missouri.

“I’d normally talk about the players that are here,” Mornhinweg said. “However, in general, it’s my experience with rookies that help a ball club – or helped the club that I’ve been on – they’ve missed very, very little. It’s just a big advantage to be at every practice.”

A team source says the Bills are gearing up to run a no-huddle offense in 2009. It would maximize their skill players and perhaps neutralize any offensive-line deficiencies by wearing out defenders. Bills fans became enamored with a no-huddle offense known as the K-Gun, which Jim Kelly so masterfully conducted during their Super Bowl years. “The no-huddle lends itself to guys that are big-play guys,” Former coach Sam Wyche said, “because if you get a defense that’s just a little fatigued, just a little off their first-step quickness, and you get the explosive guys, they can hit the home run. They have those quick-strike guys.”

Nate Davis is as quick…Quarterback Nate Davis said it took him about a year and a half to learn the nuances of the Ball State offense, which means it could take him significantly longer to know an NFL offense. His learning curve begins tomorrow.

Linebacker Leroy Hill has agreed to terms on a multiyear contract, the Seahawks will announce Thursday afternoon. It is a six-year contract with $15.5 million guaranteed and a total value of up to $38 million.

Comcast Corp. said late Thursday that it will continue carrying the NFL Network even after their contract expires at midnight, as negotiations continue. Without an agreement, the nation’s largest cable TV operator had said it would be required to pull the plug on the football network starting Friday.

Sheldon Brown showed up for work yesterday at the NovaCare Complex. The Eagles’ cornerback checked in with the rest of his teammates for the post-draft camp that opens tomorrow with morning and afternoon workouts.
